In India Sputnic-V is marketed by Hyderabad based pharma company Dr Reddy's Lab. But Covishield & Covaxin are the primary vaccines being vaccinated in India.
Covaxin Vs Covishield
1) Development of Vaccines
Covaxine is an inactivated viral vaccine. And this vaccine is developed with the Whole-Virion Inactivated Vero Cell derived platform technology. They contains dead virus which can not infect a person, but still instruct the immune system to increase a defense mechanism against the active virus.
Covishield vaccine is made from a weakened form of corona cold virus generally known as an Adenovirus from Chimpanzees. And this virus has been modified to look more like Corona virus.th
2) How these Vaccines work
When the vaccines are injected into a patient and they improve the immunity system to develop antibodies and trains to attack any type of Corona virus infections.
Once a person vaccinated with Covaxin, the immune system start respond to an infection of live Coronavirus. Cells starts produce antibodies that stick to invaders. Antibodies target spike protein and prevent the virus from entering cells. Other kinds of Antibodies block the virus in other way.
When Covishield is injected the trough bloodstream, it does not cause any infection but improves the immune system to produce antibodies to tackle with corona virus.
3) Doses
Covaxin: 2 doses (4 weeks gap between 1st & 2nd dose)
Covishield: 2 doses (At least 84 days or 12 to 16 weeks of gap between 1st & 2nd dose)
4) Which is better Covaxin or Covishield?
Many surveys were held to decide which vaccine is effective, but all these confusing. Some surveys conveying that covaxin is effective and showing its result as 90-95%, where as covishield above 70%. And some other surveys conveying Covishield is effective 95%, where as covaxin above 70%.
