National Doctor's Day

 National Doctors Day 

    National Doctor's Day is celebrated on July 1st every year, to commemorate the birth and death anniversary of the famous physician and second chief minister of West Bengal Dr Bidhan Chandra Ray.  B.C Roy was born July 1st, 1888 and also died on the same date July 1st 1962.  On this day the nation honours all those doctors who worked for the health of their patients.  Doctors day is celebrated not only in India but also across the world.  Many countries celebrate Doctors day on July 1.



    First time The Doctors Day was celebrated in the United States was in March 1933. The Indian government started celebrating Doctors day from July 1, 1991 to recognize the contribution and to honour B.C Roy.   Roy played an important role in the establishment of Indian Medical Council and Indian Medical Association.  Due to his key role several institutions were established. B.C Roy is one of the few members who obtained FRCS and MRCP degrees simultaneously.  He was awarded India's highest civilian award Bharatha Ratna in 1961.

       From ancient days Doctors were respected and honorable people in the society.   For the past two years the world has been hit by the Covid-19 pandemic, and it is again proved that Doctors how they are special people in society.  During lock down all the people stick to their homes, but Doctors worked day and night to save the nation.  Many doctors did not even meet their family members for many days.  Doctors and all healthcare workers who are working in the global health crisis and trying to protect individuals and communities with less resources, and shortage of personal protective equipment.  They become an unexpected target for Coronavirus in the fight against Covid-19  Many of the doctors diseased with Coronavirus while treating the covid patients, and many of them have died.  


 India and all the world are still bottling with Coronavirus, our frontline workers are working day and night to save our lives.  One of those heroes are our Doctors.  Doctors gave their valuable contribution in saving the people and their lives and they ensured to keep people safe during this pandemic.  From treating the people with Covid-19 Doctor, becoming a person to rely on in this tough time.  July 1st is the great day to express our gratitude for medical saviours and Doctors.
