Indian Institute of Technology Bombay

     IIT Bombay is a public technical and research university located at Powai in Mumbai, Maharashtra.  IIT Bombay is the second Indian Institute of Technology and was established in 1958. IIT Kharagpur is the first Indian Institute of Technology which was established in 1951, at Kharagpur, West Bengal.  Planning for the IIT in Mumbai started in 1957, it came into realization in 1958.  IIT Bombay began with 100 students in the campus of 200 hectares at Powai surrounded with beautiful locations and lakes in Mumbai.  The institute is fully residential having 15 hostels with in-house dining.  Institute also provides world class amenities for sports and other recreational facilities. 
    The institute was declared an institute of national importance and given the status of University in 1961, by the act of Parliament.  IIT Bombay was established with cooperation of UNESCO and with the contribution of Russia.  The Institute received maximum assistance from UNESCO and Russia in the form of equipment and  expert services up to 1973. IIT Bombay has received experts and technicians from reputed institutions in Russia. UNESCO also offered fellowships for training Indian faculty members in the USSR. 

    Now the IIT Bombay is recognized worldwide as a reputed in the field of engineering and research.  Showing its outstanding caliber of students graduating from its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The institute attracts the best students from all corners of the country. All the programmes of IIT Bombay undergraduate, postgraduate and research are run by the reputed faculty in the country.  Institute also links with world famous universities and institutions to enhance research and educational programmes.  The faculty of the institute have won many prestigious awards and recognitions, for example Indian famous awards Shanti Swaroop Bhatnagar and  Padma awards.
